It’s great to see that a VPN which calls itself “Safer” actually has proper security features. I switched from my old VPN as it did not have a kill switch feature which left me in real trouble when the server failed. Thankfully, SaferVPN does have this feature, which makes it a fully secure VPN service.

    + PROS: Fully secure
    - CONS: Only connect to 2 devices at once with the basic plan

Hello, my name is Janice and I’m a single mom of three. Popcorn Time is a life-saver because it means the kids can watch tv and movies without busting my budget. I have just received a letter from Comcast saying there had been copyright infringement. I can’t afford to pay for a streaming service but I also can’t afford to deal with fines. My friend told me about a VPN but I don’t know what it is. Can you help?

Hi Janice. VPNs can definitely seem complex on the surface, but you don’t have to be tech-expert to benefit from using them. All you have to do is sign-up and follow the onscreen instructions to install the app. If you’re short on cash, the two-year price plan with NordVPN is just $3.29 a month. There are also completely free VPNs available but they won’t guarantee consistent protection if you’re worried about Comcast.

Yes, exactly. Although UK subscribers enjoy an extensive catalog, it does not match the reams and reams of extra shows in the US. You can also access other Netflix catalogs if you’re interested in foreign film – as well as alternative streaming services that experience content blocks.

How come the only VPN in the Amazon app store is IPVanish? I want a better one than that but they aren’t there.

Currently, IPVanish is the only VPN that Amazon hosts in their store. There are many potential reasons for this, but Amazon has provided no official explanation. You can use a different provider on Firestick; it just requires more set-up. Other VPN services can be installed via the Downloader panel by entering the app URL. Contact the provider you want to use for a more detailed guide.

Fortunately, all the VPNs we recommend, expressvpn, nordvpn, and so on, come with a free trial period so you can simply cancel your subscription for a full refund. However, it might be worth speaking to the provider’s customer support team to make sure it’s not a resolvable problem.

We are glad we could make sense of it for you. It is true that free VPN providers often give the software a bad rep. Unfortunately, without charging, they are limited in what they can provide. Using a free trial is the best way to get premium protection for no cost, like with ExpressVPN 30 day money back for example.

It’s a common misconception that Macs are impenetrable. The claim itself only refers to antivirus and malware, as Apple’s ‘sandboxing’ technique provides internal protection. However, this is not even entirely accurate.

Virtual Private Networks provide security for the connection between your computer and the internet, protecting you from rogue wifi hotspots, government snooping and cybercriminals. As it is not an internal problem, Apple’s inbuilt security has no impact. Try ExpressVPN or NordVPN – our 2 top recommended services.

I made the switch to NordVPN after my last VPN let me down. It runs quite well on my mac and iPhone especially compared to the last one. The main issue I had with them was with their customer service, I was using the live chat and whoever was on the other end was taking about 7 minutes to respond between questions. That was a tad frustrating to say the least. Other than that though it’s been a good service.

+ PROS: Great for Mac and iPhone. Had no problem streaming. Great speed.
    - CONS: Need to wait a bit long for reply on live chat

    Hi Allan,
Thank you for your question! The majority of people select a free VPN (ex. ProtonVPN) over a premium service (ex. ExpressVPN) is because either they have a one-time need. Some people also want to “try before they buy,” giving them, in essence, the best of both worlds. You can read more regarding the differences between free and premium in the table at the top of the article.

    Hi Lizzy,
You need a VPN since depending on your location when overseas, you won’t have online access to the US TV shows you want to stream. The VPN provider will enable you to spoof your location and connect to a remote server, therefore allowing to connect to your show of choice. The service providers listed above, like ExpressVPN or NordVPN, are very reliable in terms of connection speed and support if ever you need help troubleshooting.

ExpressVPN have a 6-month plan if you don’t want to commit to a year. Just FYI, we get a lot of students subscribing to the VPN services once they get to school because of blocked access once in school campus. I would consider taking the 1-year subscription so you won’t have to subscribe again in case you need to access social media or streaming sites in school, plus, you save up significantly.

    Hi Daisy,
I thank you for your input. We actually ran a survey on the page in order to see how many students had that exact problem, and it turns out that depending on the State/City, the very fact of being in the campus blocks you from the VPN page itself. We tried several techniques, but unfortunately these didn’t help. What we can suggest is to sign up outside of the campus and already be online via the vpn service when you enter school. There shouldn’t be any problem then. Please follow the guidelines in THE WORKAROUND TO UNBLOCK THE VPN SERVICE PAGE ON SCHOOL CAMPUS above.

Hi, and thanks for the question! Boosting your home internet’s signal can be achieved in one of two ways. The first is to see where your router is placed, and try to find a way to get the best signal possible. If this is your issue, then simply moving your router to somewhere with less obstructions (such as concrete walls and barriers) can improve your signal. You can also install a repeater or a signal relay in your home to make sure your wireless connection always reaches every room. If the problem is your internet connection, then the only real solution is to contact your Internet Service Provider to find a package better suited to your streaming needs, or to make sure your bandwidth isn’t being hogged by other online activities.

Netflix does require an internet connection to work, either through your home internet connection, or through your mobile device’s broadband connection. If you don’t want to hog your existing bandwidth, you can definitely use your mobile connection, or even a public Wi-Fi network (though we don’t recommend it, as speeds tend to be capped significantly in public networks). You can also purchase a hotspot to use as a dedicated streaming connection, though that could raise your monthly bills a little.

Hopefully this answers your questions, and let us know how you resolve your connectivity issues!

However, your best bet would be to communicate with their live chat customer service (they are real people, not robots and are very knowledgeable) so that they trouble shoot together with you and walk you through the steps. No VPN service can claim ubiquitous leak protection as it simply doesn’t exist. However, ExpessVPN does offer a DNS leak tool, which allows you to test your connection for runaway data. While it does not yet offer IPv6 protection, it’s easy to disable the protocol and run IPv4 – which does not produce the same issues.

In reply to your comment, it will depend on the specific website or channel that you are accessing. Some IP range might be blocked but Expressvpn also have consistent servers that will bypass the blockings. The usual solution is to connect to other VPN server locations, and they have plenty available so it works quickly.
As for their location, ExpressVPN is based in BVI (British Virgin Islands).

    Hi Abby,
We tried to help our users with this as we realized that school campus IT administrators block certain sites like Youtube, Snapchat, etc. They’ll therefore block the VPN site since they know the VPN will enable you to overcome that issue. What I suggest you do is try clicking on ExpressVPN on this page – the URL has been adjusted so that you can access the page. If it still doesn’t work, I strongly recommend you access the VPN site when you are out of the school campus and register. Once you launch the software, you should be able to use it within the campus at any time based on your subscription.

    Hi Mattman,
Here is a step by step guide for you to get US Netflix from where you are:
    1. Sign up with a VPN provider (we recommend ExpressVPN to unblock Netflix).
    2. Download / install the application to your device.
    3. Launch the VPN application and sign in using your VPN account.
    4. Connect to an American VPN server.
    5. Go to Netflix website (you can also launch the Netflix application).
    Enjoy your streaming!

    Thank you,
    Ilana

    Hi Arlette,
    Thank you for reaching out.
I would suggest either ExpressVPN or NordVPN. Both unblock Netflix from many locations in the world, with many features which ensures a smooth streaming.
Have a look at our recent article https://securethoughts.com/make-an-effective-vpn-comparison/ for a quick comparison at their features.
    Thank you!
