Summary:

This week I reviewed AzireVPN, to see what their software and service had to offer.

Pros:

  • unlimited bandwidth
  • low prices
  • compatible with most systems
  • no data logging

Cons:

  • no refunds
  • only 3 servers worldwide
  • awful customer service
  • not compatible with iOS

Overall Score:  26/100

This score is WAY lower than the 97/100 scored by our best VPN – Express VPN.

This was definitely one of the lowest scoring VPNs I’ve reviewed. AzireVPN’s unresponsive customer service made it impossible for me to take their connection for a test drive.

It’s amazing how fast information travels now that everything’s online.

Your internet connection, whether you want it to or not, is constantly providing web sites with information to help them target advertising to you, using cookies and IP addresses.

In addition, people that use open public Wi-Fi networks put themselves at an enormous amount of risk for having their information stolen and their identity compromised.

It may be your information, but beyond the paper thin walls of a public connection, everyone from government agencies to hackers are fighting their way in to invade your privacy.

VPNs are a simple way to solve this problem.

They not only provide you with an encrypted tunnel that protects your from these prying eyes, but even give you a new IP address, giving you truly anonymous browsing.

In addition, this IP address will open up your access to any content you want, regardless of where you actually are.

As with most things, the market is flooded with everyone trying to hawk their VPN services to the thronging flow of customers.

With over the top sales pitches and lofty promises, it’s hard to sort out the frauds from the real deal.

Here I’ll show you how to outsmart the marketing, and find the best VPN for your needs. I’ll also be reviewing AzireVPN, to see how their service compares to some of the competition.

Will AzireVPN Work on My Operating System?

The easiest way to narrow down your choices is by seeing which VPNs are going to work on your operating systems.

Since you can usually use a VPN connection on at least two devices, make sure it’s going to be compatible with everything you’re using.

AzireVPN works with Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android systems, but won’t work on mobile Apple products running iOS.  iPhone users, I’d pass on this one.

Rating:  4/5 – Won’t work with iOS

What Kind of Features Does AzireVPN Have?

The features a VPN has to offer are really their bread and butter, and what set them apart from the competition.

I’ll go through each one here and tell you what they mean, as well as what you can expect to get from the best VPN services.

Decide which ones are the most important to you, and use that criteria to get the most tailor fit VPN service.

Feature #1: Multiple Connections

This feature is one of the most convenient, as it means that you can connect their secure VPN to more than one device at a time.

Since most of us use a home computer and a mobile Wi-Fi enabled device, you’ll want at least two connections, but the more the merrier.

While AzireVPN does allow you to connect your account to as many devices as you want, you cannot have more than one simultaneous connection.

This means only one person can use it at a time, so keep this in mind if you have more than one person in your household that would be using the service.

Rating:  0/5 – Only 1 simultaneous connection

Feature #2:  Money Back Guarantee

Since VPNs are a service that is rendered completely digitally, it’s important that a company has a money back guarantee.

This is really a good faith gesture, and shows that they not only stand behind their product, but their customer service as well.

AzireVPN doesn’t have any refund policy anywhere in writing. They may still work out refunds with you if you’re having serious service issues, but there’s nothing to hold them to it.

Rating:  0/5 – No money back guarantee

Feature #3:  Number of Servers

The number of servers a VPN provider has can really impact the quality of your connection, so pay close attention to this one.

The more servers you can access, the faster your connection is likely to be.  Also, the closer they are to you, the more reliable the connection will be, so make sure there’s at least one in your area.

Look for a VPN service with at least 50 servers.

AzireVPN falls way short of that, with only 3 servers to choose from worldwide.

Though they have on in America, which means pretty open access to content, with so few to choose from it’s very likely that their connections will be bogged down during peak usage hours.

Rating:  1/5 – Only 3 servers worldwide

Feature #4:  Referral Program

This is a pretty rare feature to find, but one that literally can put money back in your pocket.

Some VPN companies do in fact offer free or discounted service for sending them new customers, so be sure to ask the ones you check out if this is something they offer.

Not surprisingly, AzireVPN doesn’t have any kind of referral program, so there are no kickbacks (or incentives for that matter) for sending them new business.

Rating:  0/5 – No referral program

Feature #5:  Data Logging

Data logging refers to the practice of storing internet usage activity. Though it’s done by a lot of ISPs and even sites that you visit, it should never be done by a VPN provider.

This one’s a big no-no, so don’t give anyone your money that’s just going to keep logs on what you’re doing.

AzireVPN never logs any of their users’ activity, so true to the nature of their business, you activity will always be anonymous and private.

Rating:  5/5 – Anonymous browsing for all

Feature #6:  Bandwidth

This refers to the capacity the connection has for data transfer. The more you get the better, especially if you do a lot of downloading and streaming.

AzireVPN gives all of their customers completely unlimited bandwidth with all of their service plans, so you never have to worry about hitting a monthly cap.

Rating: 5/5 – Unlimited bandwidth on all plans

How Secure Is It?

Even if you’re just using a VPN to open up your access, having the most secure connection will keep your information secure and your browsing private.

There are a few different protocols out there, but in then end the more choices you have, the better.

It gives you the chance to optimize your connection for either speed or security, since favoring one can sometimes compromise the others.

There are two basic encryption strengths:  128 and 256 bit. The latter of these two is virtually unbeatable military grade, and is the strongest there is.

Make sure the VPN you choose has this for an option, as well as the ability to choose a weaker encryption for speed optimization.

AzireVPN offers a few different options for security, so it’s great for people that may want the ability to choose the strength of their encryption.

It varies between IPSEC and OpenVPN protocols, but goes all the way up to 256 bit.

Rating:  5/5 – Very secure, lots of options

What’s the Set-Up Process Like?

Despite the growing popularity of this software, not everyone is familiar with it.

That being said, a simple set up not only keeps from scaring off prospective customers, but makes for a better overall experience – much less frustrating.

I hate to say it, but I honestly couldn’t tell you how AzireVPN’s set up is, because I never got that far.

After several failed attempts at contacting their customer service, I never even got past setting up an account. Ease of set up I’d say would be a stretch, since it wasn’t even easy to set up an account.

Rating:  0/5 – Unable to set up account

Is it Easy to Use?

Once you get the software and connection set up, it should be as easy as point and click to connect. If you’re having to dig into your computer’s settings every time, you’re working too hard my friend.

Since I never even got to set up the software, I’ve obviously never used it. I can’t speak to how simple or straightforward it is.

Since AzireVPN’s customer service failed to contact me so miserably, we’re going to fail to give them the benefit of the doubt. Sorry guys, customer service IS your product.

Rating:  0/5 – Never able to use software

Logging In

Sure, logging in to the software keeps your account secure and makes sure you’re the one to use it.

However, having to log in every time you need to connect to your VPN is a pain, so make sure there’s an option to remember your credentials.

Changing Servers

Some servers are going to have a faster connection than others, so make sure you can switch easily if you need to.

Even better, some VPNs offer a real time display of the traffic on their servers, so you can choose the fastest one in your area.

What If I Need Help?

Security and features aside, customer service is almost more important than any of it. As you can see so far, without great customer service you’re not going to get very far.

I’ll go through what you need to look for, and just how important these service features are.

24/7 Support?

This is the most important part of great customer service, because it means you’re going to get a response in less than a day.

We all live in different time zones, and you can’t count on technical problems only occurring during business hours, so this one’s a must.

Though I was unable to contact their customer support at all, the length of my wait time indicates that AzireVPN’s customer service is definitely not 24/7.

Rating:  0/5 – Unreachable customer service

Channels

This refers to the ways you can get in touch with customer service.

The more ways, the better, but the real thing to look for is a phone support or live chat option. At the very least they should offer e-mail support.

AzireVPN only has e-mail support available, so you’re hard pressed to get a timely response from them (when they decide to check their e-mail anyway).

Rating:  1/5 – Only e-mail support available

Customer Support Test

As you can guess, I put AzireVPN’s customer service to the test, to see how they valued their customer’s time, and what kind of priority they put on the support side of their business.

E-mail Support Test #1 – Tuesday/9:23 p.m.

I sent my first service request in the middle of the week, late at night.

I wanted to see how fast their service was outside of normal business hours (in my time zone at least). I waited three days, and never got a response.

Result: No response

Rating:  0/5 – No customer service

E-mail Support Test #2 – Wednesday/11:17 a.m.

My next service request happened at a more reasonable hour. I was hoping this time around to hear something back, but was once again disappointed.

I still wasn’t able to get service, and so I still wasn’t able to log in.

Result:  No response

Rating:  0/5 – Unresponsive customer service

AzireVPN’s customer service was absolutely nonexistent. Maybe they’ll get back to me sometime next week, but not in a time frame that would allow me to use their service and write this review.

This is a huge red flag, and in and of itself, is enough reason to avoid this company altogether.

Overall Support Rating:  0/10 – What customer support?

How Fast is AzireVPN?

Every VPN out there seems to claim to be the fastest and best.  The only way to really know is to test it out for yourself.

Normally this is the part where I would run a couple of speed tests, but since I was never able to even use AzireVPN, there’s nothing to report.

Rating:  0/5 – Speed unknown

How Much Does AzireVPN Cost?

Finally, the cost of a VPN is the last determining tangible factor for shopping around.

The thing is is that this is a very competitive market, so you don’t have to settle for high prices. Never even consider paying more than around $15 a month for any VPN service.

azirec

AzireVPN is really reasonably priced, with rates around $5 per month. Honestly though, given the poor quality of their service, I’d say the least they could do is have an affordable rate.

Rating:  5/5 – Super low prices

The X Factor

The X factor is that indiscernible quality that makes the company stand out to you. Maybe it’s their slick software, maybe it’s their sketchy marketing, but it’s usually the tie breaker category.

AzireVPN’s entire operation just reeked of sketchy take your money and run antics.

It started with their customer service (or lack thereof), and was really reinforced by the lack of concrete information on their service plans.

With these guys, it’s like the lights are on, but nobody’s home – not someone I’d feel comfortable giving my money to.

Rating:  0/20 – Sketchy to say the least

Conclusion

Well, despite how much AzireVPN obviously suffered in this review, with any luck you’ve got a pretty good idea of how to shop smart for VPN services. Let’s recap and see where AzireVPN stands.

Pros:

  • compatible with most operating systems
  • no data logging
  • unlimited bandwidth
  • multiple security protocols
  • very strong encryption
  • low monthly rates

Cons:

  • only one connection allowed
  • not compatible with iOS
  • no money back guarantee
  • no referral program
  • very small list of servers
  • zero customer service
  • little info on website, constant referrals to FAQs

Overall Score:  26/100

Since I was unable to really test AzireVPN’s software, I can’t speak on how good or bad it may be. However, with customer service this bad, I’m sure it’s not even worth looking into.

Very arbitrary categories. 20 points for “that indiscernible quality that makes the company stand out to you”? Also, who cares about iOS compatibility?

Also, it seems that AzireVPN has added a 7 day money back guarantee and better customer support since you made this review.
