Is Star Wars On Netflix? Which Services are Streaming Star Wars?

Sadly, the amount of services that are streaming the entire Star Wars franchise and back catalog of films is very small. This is thanks to the creators of the movies knowing just how popular they are – and therefore how powerful their appeal is to customers willing to pay to see them.

The result has been that Lucasfilms and Disney are now only streaming the entire collection of films on Disney+. The relatively new video streaming library allows its subscribers to watch every single full-length film from Star Wars as well as the spin-off movies and a handful of TV shows the franchise has produced.

That being said, Netflix does stream the spin-off film Solo A Star Wars story. However, in terms of Star Wars, Netflix does not stream any other of its movies. That is the same for all other subscription video library companies – be it Hulu, Amazon, or Sling TV.

How and Where to Watch Star Wars from Anywhere in the World

Disney+ is the only video library that Star Wars fans can use to get their fill of the sci-fi franchise. To watch it on that streaming service, it is necessary to have a subscription to the company’s plan and from there you will be able to watch whatever you want from Disney+, depending on what country you are in. If Star Wars is in the library on Disney+ of the country you are currently in, you’ll be able to watch it as normal, no problem.

The problem of not being able to watch it arises when you leave a country like the US where you can watch Star Wars freely with your Disney+ subscription. Disney+ doesn’t allow Star Wars to be watched outside of certain countries.

However, there is a way around this. To watch Star Wars outside of the allocated countries, you need to provide the server with an IP address that gives the appearance of your device being in the US, or any country where your content is allowed.

To give your computer or device a secondary IP address, you need to use a piece of software called a VPN. A VPN works by connecting you to a new server that is based in a country where your Disney+ subscription is not subject to geoblocking. Thanks to that server being in another country, you are given that much-needed IP address with the relevant location you need.

Therefore, once you have bought a piece of VPN software from a provider, and you have established a VPN connection with your provider’s servers, you should be able to log on to your Disney+ account and watch any Star Wars film from anywhere that you are.

Why you Need a VPN to Stream and Watch Star Wars

There are a number of reasons why you need a VPN to watch Star Wars from anywhere in the world. Due to geo-restrictions, even if you do have a Disney+ subscription, you will be blocked from watching or streaming the films to your device or computer in certain countries.

This is down to a couple of reasons. Firstly, Disney+ has different subscription plans for customers in different countries. Essentially, they charge more in other countries than they do in the US and if they did not block their library depending on the country the user is in, it would mean that customers could simply choose their least expensive subscription plan the world over.

Secondly, some countries will censor the shows that Disney+ streams. This is down to different cultural beliefs and thoughts on government intervention. For example, countries in the Middle East tend to have much stricter laws on what their citizens can watch versus countries like the USA or UK.

How to Choose The Best VPN for Star Wars

The best VPNs to watch Star Wars are not necessarily always going to be the ones that simply unblock your Disney+ content. A VPN provider needs to offer more than just a US server with a relevant IP address that will allow you access to your Disney+ library so you know where to watch Star Wars from at all times. We like to see the following characteristics as standard in a competent provider:

Connection Speed

Streaming video content takes a lot of bandwidth and a good connection to a server. If that connection is patchy or slow in any way, your user experience will be materially diminished. This is because your shows and films will be subject to pausing, pixelation and buffering. It won’t be the seamless experience that you were looking for when you logged on.

Number of Servers

One of the ways a VPN provider can improve its connectivity is to improve both the number of its servers and the servers themselves. While the hardware needs to be of a certain standard, how many there are is important as if they become too inundated with customers looking for a connection, you may not be able to login to a server with the country location you want. This means you may not be able to get the IP address you need to look like you are in the States.

Number of Locations

While the majority of Disney+ users will want to look like they are in the States when they want to access the service when on holiday, they may also want to appear like they are in other countries too. The UK, for example, has a Disney+ subscription and so its UK customers will consequently want their VPN provider to have servers in the UK. We, therefore, like to see the best VPN providers have a number of different server locations so that customers can be sure they will always be able to log on as, and when, they want.

Privacy and Security

Given that some people will be trying to gain a new IP address to watch content that is blocked by the law of a government with strict censorship, users will want to ensure their streaming sessions are private and secure. This means that we only recommend VPN providers that have the best techniques and approaches to cybersecurity. We like to see top of the range encryption methods, kill switches and the best protocols possible as part of a VPN product.

While VPNs can be invaluable to its users, they still have to be affordable. We therefore only recommend VPNs that are at a price that we would be willing to pay.

How To Watch Star Wars – Netflix or Elsewhere?

Watching Star Wars online is now far more difficult than before, thanks to only being streamed from Disney+. This has a knock-on effect of it being more difficult to watch from certain parts of the world. It is possible however through the use of a VPN and a Disney+ subscription.

A VPN is a great investment on its own, regardless of its use to watch Star Wars with. This is down to the added security it provides you, your family and business with. Given that it encrypts its data, amongst many other privacy measures, you will find that your data is far less susceptible to hacking or government spying.

ExpressVPN remains our top pick of VPN providers for these reasons in addition to its uses with regards to unblocking geo-restricted content such as Star Wars.
