Pros:

  • super fast connection
  • incredible prices
  • lightning fast customer service
  • very easy to use

Cons:

  • no money back guarantee

All in all, VPN One Click is a great basic VPN option for new users. However, their software and service is lacking in a lot of features that competitors like ExpressVPN include.

In a world of tweets, notifications, and abundant over-sharing, there’s a lot to be said for online security. We share more information than ever before online, and the majority of it, without us even realizing it.

Apps are constantly updating, connecting, and syncing, and much of our information is being transferred without us even being aware of it.

We’ve become a world of cybercrimes, with hackers stealing data rapidly to wreak financial havoc on their victims. On public and private networks alike, your data is at risk of being stolen by criminals, and spied on by your government.

VPNs solve this problem by encrypting your data and protecting your privacy – even on open networks, nobody can snoop on your connection. VPNs act like a secret tunnel in the internet, wrapping your connection in military-grade encryption to keep it private and secure.

You also get anonymous browsing with a VPN – thanks to IP address blocking, nobody can track your activity, including the government.

For this reason VPNs are also great for opening up your access to blocked content. With a worldwide network of servers at your disposal, you can trick websites into thinking you’re logging on from somewhere else, and access any blocked content you want.

In this review of VPN One Click, I’ll break down the features of these services, and what you should look for in the ideal VPN. I’ll decode the tech speak, and we’ll check out what VPN One Click has to offer their customers.

Will VPN One Click Work on My Operating System?

With so many choices on the web, when you start looking for a VPN it’s best to use a process of elimination to narrow things down. Start with their operating system compatibility, and make sure you get a program that’s compatible with all of your devices.

I was pretty impressed with VPN One Click’s compatibility – they have an app for Windows, iOS, and Android, as well as software for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. You should have no trouble at all using this VPN on any of your devices.

Rating:  5/5 – Works on every device

What Kind of Features Does VPN One Click Have?

These are some key features of VPN services that will give you an idea of what you can get for your money. Let’s see how VPN One Click compares.

Feature #1: Multiple Connections

First of all, find out how many devices you can connect to the VPN at the same time. The benefit here is that you can use it on your home devices on your primary private network, and then on your mobile devices while you travel as well.

Most companies offer at least two simultaneous connections, so I wouldn’t settle for anything less than that. Unfortunately, VPN One Click only allows you to use their service on one computer per account – multiple devices require multiple accounts.

Rating: 0/5 – One connection per account

Feature #2:  Money Back Guarantee

This one’s easy enough to figure out – if you ask for a refund, will they give it to you? Look for a defined money back guarantee on their website, and make sure you can get it back for any reason, not just technical problems.

Ideally, you want a company that offers at least a two week window for a refund. Though VPN One Click says they’ll issue you a refund if there are ever unresolvable issues, there is no refund policy anywhere on their website, and they were unable to clarify any specifics. I wouldn’t hold your breath with this one.

Rating: 0/5 – No defined refund policy

Feature #3:  Number of Servers

The size of a company’s network can greatly impact the quality of your connection, so make sure it’s large enough to accommodate their customer base. Ideally, you want a VPN with a network of 50 server locations or more, and for them to be spread out quite a bit around the world so they’re easy to connect to.

VPN One Click doesn’t have a huge network of servers, only 29 in total, but they range from locations all around the world, so no matter where you are, chances are you can connect. Depending on where you need to get access though, there may be some heavy traffic given the limited number of servers.

Rating: 3/5 – Great network distribution

Feature #4:  Referral Program

This isn’t a very common feature, but one that can seriously pay off nonetheless, so be sure to check and see if they have one. Some companies do offer referral programs to their customers, which allow you to get perks like free service for sending new business their way.

Unfortunately, with VPN One Click, there are no perks for referring their services.

Rating:  0/5 – No referral program

Feature #5:  Data Logging

Data logging is the unsavory practice that some companies like internet service providers use to collect data on their customers. This information can be anything from your IP address to the sites you’ve visited, and is a major invasion of your privacy.

A VPN provider may have to retain IP addresses in some instances, depending on local laws, but none of them should ever be logging more than that. VPN One Click doesn’t keep logs of your IP addresses or your content, so all of your browsing is completely private and anonymous.

Rating:  5/5 – Anonymous browsing

Feature #6:  Bandwidth

Bandwidth refers to the data transfer rate of your internet connection. Though your ISP has a lot to do with how this works, it’s also important to be sure that no VPN service is ever capping or throttling your bandwidth – it can seriously slow down your connection.

Always look for VPNs with unlimited bandwidth – it’s pretty much the standard these days. With VPN One Click, the only bandwidth limitations that are in place are those imposed by your ISP – there are zero caps with this VPN.

Rating:  5/5 – Unlimited bandwidth

How Secure Is It?

VPNs are great for accessing blocked content, but make sure whatever you get is secure as well. When you use a VPN, your data is always encrypted, and they typically either use a 128 or 256 bit protocol, with the latter of the two being stronger.

It’s also really helpful if in addition to having great security, a VPN offers you the option to adjust your settings or protocols based on what you’re using it for. You don’t need top notch encryption to stream Netflix, but you need the fastest connection you can get, and encryption will unnecessarily slow you down.

VPN One Click says they offer two security protocols, but honestly, when I used their software, I saw no way to actually choose which one I used. I can only assume their individual servers dictate the type of encryption your connection receives. However, they do offer both 128 IPSEC and L2TP 256 bit encryption.

Rating:  4/5  – Strong encryption

What’s the Set-Up Process Like?

If you’ve never used a VPN before, don’t worry – it’s usually extremely simple. The process is incredibly straightforward, and more often than not, it’s a simple matter of just downloading and installing software to get it set up.

However, some VPNs may require you to manually set up their connections, which can be a tedious and complicated process for a new user. Setup with VPN One Click is as easy as it gets – just download the software or app that is meant for your operating system, and you’re in business.

Rating:  5/5 – Basic download/install setup

Is it Easy to Use?

Once you get your software download and set up, connecting should always be as simple as selecting a server location and hitting the big red (or whatever) button. If you have to dip into your device’s network connection settings to get going, you’re working too hard.

VPN One Click is missing a lot of features, but there’s no doubt that there software is some of the easiest to use out there. Just click on the flag of the country you want to connect to, and hit connect.

Rating:  5/5 – Basic program anyone can use

Logging In

Let’s be honest, logging in is a pain. I love a program that remembers my credentials, and definitely one that lets me use the same set for the website and the software.

I used the free version of VPN One Click, and there was absolutely zero logging in to use their software – no account details to memorize whatsoever.

Changing Servers

If you start using a VPN and the connection isn’t quite as fast as you would like, one easy thing you can do is hop servers a few times until you find one that’s a bit better. Switching servers should always be as simple as selecting from a drop down menu.

Changing servers with VPN One Click was incredibly straightforward. Though there was no real time display of the activity on their servers to use as a reference, you could just try your luck on another by simply disconnecting and choosing a new location, fingers crossed that it would be a bit faster than the last.

What If I Need Help?

It’s a sad reality that great customer service is hard to come by, and online services are at the brunt of that truth. It really shows you how much they value your patronage though, if they always make your requests for help a priority. Here are a few things to look for.

24/7 Support?

Number one – you need to try to find a company that offers round the clock support. Technical problems can happen any time, day or night, so it’s important that you go with a company that’s prepared to pick up the phone when you need them.

VPN One Click surprised me – their support team is available 24/7/365, so you never have to wait for assistance.

Rating:  5/5 – Round the clock support

Channels

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always preferred live support – it’s there when you need it, and there’s never any flitting back to your inbox to see if your request was answered. Most companies offer e-mail support and at least one live option, either phone or chat support.

With VPN One Click, you can either contact them via their live chat option on their website, or by using their e-mail ticket system if the problem isn’t urgent. Their chat feature will take you to a separate site, and the setup is a little rudimentary, but it’s simple and functional.

Rating:  4/5 – Live chat and e-mail support

Customer Support Test

In my experience, a company’s sales team is always more attentive than their customer support, so I put VPN One Click’s to the test with a few support requests. I made sure to contact them both during peak and typical non-business hours, to see how their response times compared.

E-mail Support Test #1 – Friday/10:42 a.m.

My first interaction with VPN One Click’s customer support actually went extremely well – I got a response almost instantly. Their staff was friendly and helpful, and gave me a concise answer to my question the first time around.

Result: 1 minute

Rating:  5/5 – Extremely fast support!

E-mail Support Test #2 – Friday/10:22 p.m.

I contacted VPN One Click’s customer support again later that evening, and again, got an incredibly fast response. A representative got in touch with me right away, and their service was to the point.

Result: 14 minutes

Rating:  5/5 – Fast and helpful

Live Chat Support Test #1 – Friday/12:20 p.m.

I had a simple question about VPN One Click’s service, so I tried out their live chat to see how they handled it. I got connected to someone pretty quickly, but the operator wasn’t very helpful. When I asked an already very specific question, he wanted me to ‘be more specific’, and even then didn’t have an answer.

Result: 57 seconds

Rating: 2/5 – Fast, but not helpful

Live Chat Support Test #2 – Friday/11:47 p.m.

I made my second contact with their live chat support later that evening, and had much the same result – their support was incredibly fast and polite, but once again I had to repeat myself to get my questions answered (and that’s saying something in a live chat). It was incredibly frustrating.

Result: 71 seconds

Rating: 2/5 – Do they even read your questions?

Overall, I was incredibly impressed by the speed with which VPN One Click responded to my questions – there was no waiting around with them, they obviously had staff at the ready.

However, their live chat was really indicative that they weren’t always the most thorough when it came to paying attention to what their customer was asking – frustrating given that it was right in front of them.

Overall Support Rating: 14/20

How Fast is VPN One Click?

I’m going to let you in on a little secret – just about every VPN you’re going to look at claims to be the fastest one. However, VPN speed is not only highly variable, but something you can only know for sure if you test it out yourself.

I ran two speed tests, one on my regular home connection without the VPN, and one connected to the nearest server location with VPN One Click.

With VPN One Click

Typically when you use a VPN, your connection is going to be a bit slower. All of that encryption can bog things down a bit, but usually no more than a difference of 2 mbps in download speed.

As you can see, there was almost no difference in speed between my standard connection VPN One Click’s – it was incredibly fast, with a download speed that almost matched my standard connection’s.

Rating:  5/5 – Excellent connection speed

How Much Does VPN One Click Cost?

With so many choices out there, there’s no need to settle for anything overpriced – even top of the line services never run more than $15 per month, and I wouldn’t spend much more than that.

vcost

Okay, so VPN One Click’s pricing is a little all over the place as you can see, but there’s no doubt that it’s affordable. Their service is missing a feature or two here and there, but all in all this is an incredible price for a VPN.

Rating:  5/5 – Extremely affordable

The X Factor

This category isn’t so much a feature as it is your overall impression of a VPN. Since these are online services, it’s up to the company to market and advertise in a way that’s honest and informative, and also ensure that their website is professional and easy to navigate.

I wasn’t really blown away with VPN One Click’s website – it’s all over the place, riddled with typos, and just incredibly chaotic and cluttered. The whole setup seems poorly designed, and I got the feeling that whoever did the writing had a very little grasp of the English language.

This coupled with the fact that there is just so little information on what they’re selling on their site would make me reluctant to hand over my credit card number to them.

Rating: 0/10 – Sketchy, confusing site

Conclusion

Alright, now that we’re at the end of our review, let’s recap and see how VPN One Click did:

The good:

  • works on every operating system
  • widespread network distribution
  • no data logging
  • unlimited bandwidth
  • ultra-secure connection
  • simple set up
  • easy to use
  • 24/7 support
  • live chat and e-mail assistance
  • reliably fast support
  • super fast connection
  • extremely cheap plans

The bad:

  • only one connection per account
  • no refunds
  • no referral program
  • limited server selection
  • no way to customize security
  • limited software features
  • support isn’t always concise
  • primitive website, difficult to find information

Overall Score:  65/100

So what I got out of using VPN One Click is that it’s a great basic VPN. There’s not much to their software, and honestly, if you’re just taking their service at face-value, their website may turn you off, but there’s no doubt they have a lot to offer.

Their limited server network may make connections a bit spotty and unreliable at times, but their distribution of server locations is great for people that travel. Plus, at these prices, seriously, it’s hard to argue with what they’re selling.
